In episode 109, I’m breaking down why waiting for the perfect plan is often the very thing keeping you stuck. If you tend to overthink, overresearch, or stay in preparation mode because you want to “get it right,” this episode is for you.
This conversation is especially for leaders, founders, and high-achieving professionals who value structure but find themselves looping in planning instead of taking action. You do not need everything mapped out. You need a starting point.

Escaping the Planning Trap
Many people believe that once they feel more organized, certain, or prepared, they’ll finally start. In reality, overplanning often looks productive but functions as avoidance.
Planning, researching, and gathering information can feel safe. It creates the illusion of progress without the risk of action. But clarity does not come from thinking harder. It comes from doing.
If you keep telling yourself you just need more information, more time, or a better plan before you move, that is usually a sign you are stuck in the planning trap.
Action Creates Clarity
Clarity does not arrive before action. It comes after.
I see this all the time with clients who want to pivot careers, launch new offers, or make leadership moves. They wait until they feel confident, certain, and ready. But confidence is built through movement, not before it.
When you take even one small step, you start collecting real feedback. That feedback builds confidence, reduces fear, and helps you refine your direction. You cannot think your way into clarity. You have to test your way there.
Building Momentum With Small Steps
You do not need a full roadmap, a color-coded system, or a productivity overhaul to move forward. You need one step that aligns with your energy, values, and goals.
Momentum is built by choosing one priority and taking consistent, imperfect action. When everything feels important, nothing moves. When you narrow your focus, progress becomes possible.
Instead of asking yourself how to do everything, ask yourself what one action would move this forward right now.
What to Reflect On
If you’ve been sitting on an idea, goal, or decision for a while, pause and ask yourself:
What am I waiting to perfect before I start?
Where am I using planning to avoid discomfort?
What is one small step I could take this month to move forward?
You do not need certainty to act. You need willingness.
Key Takeaways
– Planning can feel productive, but it often masks avoidance.
– Clarity comes from action, not overthinking.
– One small step is more powerful than a perfect plan.
– Momentum builds confidence and direction over time.
